Jefferson 8th Graders Earning Top Choice Placements for High Schools in 2022-23

Of the Jefferson campus 8th graders taking advantage of Dallas ISD’s school of choice program, over 80% have been accepted to one of their top choice high schools for the 2022-23 school year. The Dallas ISD school of choice program is a competitive program, which allows students to apply for and attend an advanced program or a school outside of their home campus.

“I am incredibly proud of our 8th graders' accomplishments!” Jefferson campus counselor Leah Farda said. “These students will primarily be going to a P-TECH, Magnet, or collegiate program next year.”

Each year, Farda presents to all students through their 8th grade science classes to let them know their options, to explain how to apply if they choose to attend a school outside of their attendance zone, and then offers support if needed.

“One student, who was not accepted initially, stuck with it, resubmitted some documents (MAP scores), and was accepted into her first choice, Skyline Magnet program,” Farda said. “Another was accepted to Booker T Washington, which is an arts magnet and extremely difficult to get in to.  She had to participate in an audition in order to be accepted...super prestigious!”
